Findlay Fire Department Addresses Odor Complaints
The Findlay Fire Department confirmed that recent odor complaints in Findlay have tapered off. This was after a fluid used in manufacturing by Tall Timbers Industrial Park was treated and measurements returned to normal levels.
Odor Issue Believed to Have Self-Corrected
City officials in Findlay reported that complaints regarding an unpleasant odor significantly decreased. The issue seemed to have “self-corrected.” Residents had complained about a smell described as mildew, chemicals, and sewer gas around the Tall Timbers Industrial Park area.
Investigations by Findlay Fire Department and Ohio EPA
The Findlay Fire Department teamed up with the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency to address the complaints. They conducted air quality measurements within the industrial park and downwind areas. Both investigations did not pinpoint a single source of the odor but concluded that air quality remained safe.
Fluid Used in Manufacturing Identified
According to the Findlay Fire Department, a fluid used during the manufacturing process in the industrial park was subject to a mildew-type process. This finding was consistent with an increase in odor complaints. Measurements of the fluid revealed a slight increase in bioactivity within the waste fluid.
Resolution: Treatment of the Fluid
After the fluid was treated, measurements returned to normal. As a result, odor complaints tapered off, and no further complaints have been reported since early February. The collaboration between the Findlay Fire Department and the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency was crucial in resolving this issue.
